Helping businesses and institutions since 2009
For many manufacturing companies, the past year has been challenging.
The disruption of global supply chains has made it difficult to get raw materials and deliver parts to clients. Manufacturers are dealing with physical shortages and the logistical challenges of communicating with clients about what's changing, what's available, and when their sales agreements will be met. Even though most of us cannot do much about supply chain disruptions caused by pandemics, software like Salesforce can smooth out internal operations, streamline client communications, and allow us to operate more efficiently. Manufacturing companies can streamline internal operations with Salesforce. Being able to respond quickly to the unexpected is key to a manufacturing company's success. Here are a few key capabilities that Salesforce enables: Managing Sales Agreements Manufacturing businesses must keep sales agreements up-to-date month-to-month, but manually updating spreadsheets, emails, and other documents can be daunting. The Salesforce platform streamlines this process by storing all relevant data in one place and automatically updating it when it changes anywhere within the organization. Furthermore, Salesforce can pull data in from an ERP system so that every time information from one part of the organization changes, every part of the organization is updated. Sales reps' ability to negotiate contracts more efficiently is another benefit of having all of the organization's data in one place. Account-Based Forecasting Manufacturing sales teams can forecast growth within individual accounts and across an organization through account-based forecasting. Managers can set team targets and track their progress against those targets. Salesforce makes it easy for managers to see at a glance what's working and what isn't, making it easier to offer support where it's most needed and replicate what works. Client relationships can also be improved by forecasting. For example, you can see whether you'll be able to meet a customer's future needs if you forecast an account's growth six months ahead. Forecasts indicate that you won't be able to meet a customer's future needs, so you can discuss alternatives as soon as possible, which keeps the relationship strong and prevents unpleasant surprises. Eliminating Internal Silos Salesforce allows an organization to store all its data in one place. It eliminates internal silos and improves team communication. Salesforce Manufacturing Cloud, for example, provides sales teams with insight into the operational or manufacturing side of the business. Customers can see real-time inventory levels. Operational teams can easily access sales agreements to see what's to come in the future. Data visibility can also benefit customer service. Customer service agents can quickly determine whether a shipment was sent and whether any problems prevented it from departing if a customer calls about a delayed shipment. Communicating better with Partners Salesforce's Manufacturing Cloud offers manufacturers the opportunity to share data with partner organizations. Using Slack for Sales, manufacturers can communicate in real-time with partner teams about everything from past client needs to discount opportunities and streamline finalizing and renewing sales agreements. By adding Experience Cloud for Manufacturing, manufacturers can share leads with channel partners and gain real-time insights into the demand generated by those channels. Meanwhile, channel partners can gain insights into inventory levels and other key data that will allow them to make confident commitments to customers. Manufacturers shouldn't rely on Salesforce It's important to understand that Salesforce can't transform manufacturing organizations by itself. First, manufacturing organizations' teams need to recognize that adoption involves a lot of work. Salesforce's automation tools and unification of information will make work more efficient in the long run. Still, while they are getting up to speed and learning the new platform, teams are likely to be less efficient.
